                            Cornelius Whillance was born in Newcastle on Tyne in 1897. He and his brothers
                            John Coatsworth  and Albert Signey are the only British soldiers with the surname
                            Whillance shown on the National Archives, who served in the Great War.
                            His brothers were both 2nd Lieutenants, one in the RE and one in the DLI. 

                            The Medal - (on sale on e-bay in 2007  - bought by a direct descendant.)
                            This is an original full size British WW1 Silver War Medal, correctly named
                            on the edge to:
                            1608 SPR . C . WHILLANCE . R.E.
