This family derives its descent from Ynyr, King of
Gwent
(gth cent.), whose grandson Dyfrig, or Devereux, who lived
at the time of the Conquest, first assumed the name of
Carne, from a place called Pen Carne, in Monmouthshire,
where he was nurtured.
