SUDDON manor was recorded in 1344 (fn. 38) and was held with Wincanton manor............. It may have come into the possession of John Ewens by 1601. (fn. 43) In 1626 John and his son, also John, sold their estate at Suddon to George Harvey

Edward's son followed Edward who removed to Boston, USA to join the FREKES. John FREKE, a son of Robert FREKE, who married Katherine EWENS, was buried at Boston in 1674, and there Edward EWENS married a Miss CLARKE, on a tombstone there, the arms of the EWENS and CLARKES being united.

Ewens [alias Newport], Maurice (c.1611–1687), Jesuit, was born in Dorset, the son of John Ewens and his wife, Elizabeth Keynes, who was niece of James Keynes of Compton Pauncefoot, Somerset. His brother may have been the Jesuit Matthew Newport. He may also have been related to the Ewens family of Wincanton, Somerset, which was granted arms in 1578
