INLAWS and OUTLAWS
My EWENS Family
The AMERICAN branch of the family..........the end of this Ewens line.
According to reports received, young Thomas ran away from home and went to the USA.
He was promptly returned, but again ran away and managed to settle there.
Ewens, Thos Henry, 1865 Thomas Henry & Agnes Bridget O'Hare
Thomas and Bridget had four daughters - ergo end of this line.
Barnes William and Grace Ewens
In 1913 their son, William Cyril Barnes married Grace Edith EWENS
In 1942 their son, Thomas Ewens Barnes married Evelyn Irene GREENLEE - parents of TERRY .
'My Great Grandfather THOMAS EWENS was wonderful.
He was a kind man. He would walk to our home in Sunland, California, fully
clothed in a beautiful black suit, of course with his cane.
He was a very petite man, always with a smile.................
He later brought his beloved mother JANE to America to live. I heard from
my father he was a very generous man........ Terry'.
Terry and I met firstly via the internet - both of us doing our family trees.
She got in touch with me and yes, there was definitely a connection.
I sent her a photo of one of my Ewens uncles which totally freaked her out.
When we visited in 2004 - I could see why - she had an almost identical photo on
her wall of HER Uncle - even down to the uniform and the 'pose'.
When we first met at the airport, the first of the similarities in things we said, did etc was amazing. So much seems to be passed down through the gene pool. We are not 'close' cousins, in fact we are several times removed, yet the connection is still quite apparent.
Just to 'explain' the connection between Terry and myself - I had just started to type up the American Branch when an email came in - from Terry..............the timing was definitely 'spooky' as this is something I have been meaning to do since 2004 (it is now the beginning of 2008).
Here it is, Aug 2010 - we have been back a couple of times and stayed with Terry. Each time we learn a little more about both sides of the family and about each other.
