VICTOR & FRANCES

Victor and Frances arrived in Sydney aboard the "Petrel" on 19 November 1849,
with their two eldest children - Victor E, then aged two, and Fanny, who is listed on
the shipping records as an infant, (under 12 months.)

These records also list Victor as a schoolmaster from Sunbury, Middlesex and
Frances as his wife, from Sydenham, Kent. The most recent place of residence
of the couple is listed as Dalston, Middlesex. Their religion was C of E., and both could
                           read and write.

They eventually settled in Mount Barker, South Australia, where Victor had various jobs
as a printer, teacher and newspaper proprietor. Their only daughter, Fanny, later married
her cousin, Wickstead Charles, son of Edmund and Sophia Barton.
Victor is buried in Blakiston, S.A.

Census notes      On the 1841 census there is Victor Dumas, age 30, tutor, in Ousden, Suffolk - born
                            out of county.
Considering he didn't marry until 1844 - this is quite possibly the same Victor.
